I have always enjoyed painting large, loose atmospheric skies.  Adding the aircraft brings a different dimension with regards to technique, loose versus detail.

From white to black

"Sooty'
Original Watercolour
Private commission

From my last post saying it's tricky to keep the whites, it is probably just as tricky to paint black! :-)  I don't use Paynes Grey - I always mix my black and then, as the watercolour dries, the colours gently separate in places giving a soft colour to the fur.

Keeping the Whites

"Sid"
Original Watercolour
Commissioned painting for Charity donation

This was an incredibly challenging yet rewarding piece to paint.  With lots of fur and fine soft wispy edges, retaining the whites in this painting was the key issue.

Sid's owners were really pleased with their painting and I was delighted to be able to contribute via the charity aspect of this painting.
